The pace bowler has claimed 309 Test scalps in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.
The Australian chair of selectors the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's England-Australia contest.
Speculation had been growing that Cummins might miss the series due to a ongoing back issue that was still troubling him.
Previous updates from the squad suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series kicking off on the 21st of November in Perth.
He revealed that his recovery is on track and felt positive about his chances of being involved.
"We know that the window is narrowing and various factors around that, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.
"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he's going to play a significant role. With luck starting in Perth. Otherwise, we'll reassess."
Previous Setbacks
He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against New Zealand and India recently after medical tests showed a stress reaction in his back.
He has a history of back injuries, with flare-ups in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 leading to absences from multiple domestic campaigns in a short span.
The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to make the squad for the Ashes.
He mentioned that there was no confirmation if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the initial match.
Backup Options
Should Cummins not be fit, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.
He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."
"We put so much time has gone into building out the plan for him to take part for the first Test as an all-rounder," he elaborated.
"His involvement was limited to the starting games in any case. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for another day, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
